I have been writing a continuous class story with my 8th grade Latin 1 students this year in a hybrid environment . For a general overview of what I have done in the past , see this collection of presentations I gave in 2019 .

Here are some of the things I have done differently from years past : Story Surveys , which give students the opportunity to direct the flow of the story , are now on Google Forms . Students fill them out before each chapter and we go through their ideas as a class . These are done in English . Once we ’ ve read through the suggestions , I make a Google Doc and share with the class so we can write and discuss the Latin story chapter . The next day in class we read through the finished chapter and start doing all sorts of activities with the text . Types of Activities : Quick Quizzes on Google Forms - usually verum / falsum English statements to check for understanding , sometimes quick translations , sometimes reading comprehension questions in Latin or English Quis Diceret ? ( Who would say the quote ?) - change a detail from a story to a first-person Latin sentence . Review Slides - yes / no or either / or questions in Latin , sometimes general reading comprehension in Latin Gimkit and Quizlet Live : vocabulary and Latin-English phrases from the story Google Classroom assignments : Draw 1-2-3 ( students attach a picture to the assignment ), Find the Sentence ( either on Forms or as a Doc template worksheet ), Reading Guide Google Forms , etc . These activities offer effective learning opportunities for students , and the adjustment for a hybrid format allows teachers to quickly create content -- giving us more time to interact with our students .
