BRING IPAS INTO YOUR CLASSROOM
By Shirley L . Hall
When you are looking for a different way to assess your students , Integrated Performance Assessments ( IPAs ) are sometimes the best way to assess students by using multiple modes . These examples were made with similar structure during the pandemic or when I was teaching hybrid courses . All of these assessments deal with mythology or history . Here are some examples of IPAs for you to use in your classroom !
My plan is to add more integrative skills to some of these IPAs . The first two are the first ones that I wrote when I started this journey of IPAs . If you have any questions , feel free to contact me !
INTEGRATED PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENTS
Myth
: Horae
A wonderful assessment for when you are teaching seasons and time . This is written for Latin I . Vocabulary is cited to aid students through the translation .
Myth : Atlas
A great assessment for when you are starting geography with your students . This is written for Latin I . Vocabulary is cited to aid students through the translation .
Geography : Ubi in orbe terrarium et tempore est Carmen Sandiego ?
This is an amazing activity to move students along with Geography . It is set up with the IPA of moving students from simple to complex . Students are able to identify where countries are , as well as bodies of water . Then students are able to make connections to cities and regions through research to get history and mythology represented in your discussion of geography . Then your students get to be a Roman soldier tracking down Carmen Sandiego through working with the countries . Finally , they discover what Carmen Sandiego was trying to steal .
Myth : Aristaeus
A terrific resource when your students have been working on Nominative and Accusative case . Shirley L . Hall ( Shirley . Hall @ vbschools . com ) is in her 21st year of teaching . She is an active member of ETC , serves as secretary for Mid-Atlantic Association of Language Learning and Technology , historian of the Foreign Language Association of Virginia , and President of the Tidewater Classical Symposium . Myth : A Tale of Two Families
A wonderful resource if you want your Latin I or Latin II students . These passages deal with infinitives , imperatives and present tense verbs . There are some irregular verbs here too .
