ETC 2020-2021 HIGHLIGHTS
Working with ACL ’ s Board of Governors , Excellence Through Classics ensured that the needs of elementary and middle school teachers were considered in larger organizational decisions .
ETC ’ s committee structure and bylaws were revamped again , ensuring consistent language and restructuring of Executive Committee members to allow for consistency in the face of future growth , with the help of our ad hoc Governance Committee , led by Andrew Carroll .
The ETC Executive Board met via Zoom throughout the year .
We worked on revising the Exploratory Latin Exam under the guidance of Nava Cohen . We also worked on significant changes to both the Pegasus and Medusa National Mythology Exams under Cheryl Cheatham as Exams

ACL INSTITUTE SUCCESS
While American Classical League ’ s Summer Institute was not inperson this year , I cannot think of a better way to end the school year than seeing the faces of so many wonderful colleagues . The success of this year ’ s event truly demonstrates just how much ACL leadership , volunteers , and members have all grown in just one year . Being able to finally put Zoom faces to the names of volunteers that I ’ ve been emailing was an absolute pleasure . I love the late registration and how long the videos are available after Institute . I am confident that ACL Institute will continue to restore spirits and renew teaching passion in anticipation of the next year no matter the format .
For me , this Institute was especially meaningful because it was my first as Chair of Excellence Through Classics and a
P R I M A | 6 member of ACL ’ s Board of Governors . Despite my anxiety presenting for the first time online
( it was just as much of a Homeric experience as I imagined ), I was astounded by the support , dedication , and passion with which I was met by colleagues and peers . As I listened during the open meeting , I reflected on how much the Executive Committee Chairs and their committee members were able to achieve this year . Without a doubt , our volunteers were able to embrace change , hold good faith and lean on each other when needed . The continued and thoughtful input from members and volunteers is what makes ETC what it is !
Here are just some of the things that ETC leaders and volunteers achieved together over the past
year ...
ETC continued running the Saturnalia and National Classics Week Nationwide games , with the help of Nava Cohen and Brad Savage .
With the leadership of Andrew Carroll , SCRIBO moved from an ad hoc to a standing committee . This fall , SCRIBO welcomes Patrick Owens as its new Chair .
