There is so much laughter ! As an instructor , however , this is also when you have a lot of opportunities to repeat the Latin words , describe the images , and read the original sentences .
In addition , each Factory pair is assigned to either the Day Crew or the Night Crew , which are simply teams that compete for points . Each approved sentence earns a point for its Crew . It is a game , but my students don ’ t take this too seriously , because we still have an entirely different game to get to …
After all the sentence / image sets are approved , they are shipped off to the Factory . The sets can be turned into flashcards that can be printed out , or you can export them to Gimkit . Now the class can play the Gimkit game of their choice with the sentences and images that they created themselves !
Sentence / image sets can be turned into flashcards & printed .

" Choose a Column " is a great way to scaffold for young learners .
Some of you might be thinking , “ Wow , that sounds great , but my students ’ Latin composition skills aren ’ t up for this .” Not true ! If they have experience with prepositional phrases , you can scaffold the composition for them .
With sixth graders reading stories in Hands Up Education ’ s Primary Latin Course , I created a Choose a Column with the words on the vocabulary list ( see attached example ). Students just chose a word from each column , kept them in order , and , mirabile visu , they had written a sentence ! There are always students who want to write a different type of sentence , and that ’ s exciting . Because everyone is so engaged , you have the time to help those interested in crafting something more challenging to do so .
Every time I have used Flashcard Factory with students , I am impressed with the level of engagement . Students are continuously providing feedback to each other and the instructor ’ s role is simply to facilitate . For a group of twenty words , this activity , including a five-minute Gimkit game , takes a full hour .
