xcellence Through Classics ’ ( ETC ) Executive Committee has appointed a new Chair , Stephanie Krause ! Stephanie has served ETC in many roles over the last four years . As Program Chair , Stephanie oversaw ETC ’ s presence at the American Classical League ( ACL ) Institute . She helped to ensure sessions at ACL Institute represented middle and elementary Latin teachers .
Her leadership and organization skills were essential throughout Institute . Stephanie managed our visual display and merchandise in the exhibit hall , sponsored breaks and presentations , roundtable and pre-Institute sessions , bylaw revision and elections processes , and so much more ! In conjunction with the Chair , Stephanie has led the ETC Open Meeting , summarizing the work of Excellence Through Classics as it supports teachers and students .
In addition to her work with the Program Committee , Stephanie has served as co-chair of the ad hoc ETC Live Committee and Chair of the ad hoc Awards Committee .
Beyond her leadership and volunteer work , Stephanie has been selected as the presenter for Excellence Through Classics ’ s sponsored presentations at ACL Institute more than once by her peers . Her talks include “ Great Minds Don ’ t Think Alike : Neurodiversity in the Latin Classroom ” and “ Embracing our Differences : Reaching and Supporting Neurodiverse Latin Learners .”
Following her appointment at the spring Executive Committee meeting , Stephanie spent the summer and fall months shadowing the acting Chair , Traci Dougherty . After the fall Executive Committee meeting , Stephanie began her tenure as Chair of Excellence Through Classics .

She will continue to work with Traci Dougherty , now serving as ETC ’ s Past Chair , as she completes her first year . In her new role as Chair , Stephanie will also serve as ETC ’ s representative in the ACL Board of Governors , ensuring a voice is given to middle and elementary school teachers .
Stephanie has already accomplished so much since beginning her term :
Fall Forum , a free professional development event for elementary and middle school classics / Latin teachers . The theme was “ Championing Community : Captivating and Empowering Young Learners .” Conversations with each committee chair to discuss their leadership survey results Community Work Hour PLC , where teachers can get together to share resources and work collaboratively on curriculum and activities ACL membership campaign for ETC event participants Calliope Teaching Award redesign
Stephanie is a Latin teacher and World Language Department Chair at the McLean School in Potomac , Maryland . She received her BA from Miami University of Ohio . After completing her degree , she headed west to the University of Colorado , Boulder where she earned a MA in Latin . Recently Stephanie and Wesley Wood , who teaches Latin at Bullis School in Maryland , were awarded the Mead Fellowship by the Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages ( NECTFL ) for their work making Latin accessible to a wide range of students .
