from the ETC Chair

Salvete omnes ,
I can ’ t believe it ’ s already been four years since I began volunteering on the ETC Executive Committee ! Now , I am honored to be serving as the new ETC Chair .
My path to ACL and then to ETC was a unique one . In the middle of my freshman year at college , I transferred schools to Miami University in Oxford , OH . And of course , the first thing I did was make a bee line for the ACL Office ! I asked for a job during the school year , and the rest is history ! I started attending ACL Institutes and working to define what I wanted to do with my degree . It wasn ’ t long before I realized that I belonged in an elementary or middle school classroom .
At my first Institute , I attended the ETC Opening Meeting and was captivated . The whole room was filled with eager elementary / middle school teachers who were networking and innovating . I wanted to be part of that . The next year , I ran for Program Chair and actively started thinking of ways to improve the visibility of elementary and middle school teachers . In my time on the executive committee , I ’ ve chaired several committees including ETC LIVE and the Awards ad hoc Committee .
I ’ ve learned leadership skills from both Krystal Kubichek and Traci Dougherty , two women I highly respect and admire for their tenacity and willingness to do whatever it takes to serve students . It ’ s hard not to be inspired by the talented individuals at Excellence Through Classics and the American Classical League . I am excited to welcome Katy Reddick and Kristin Webster to the Executive board as Program Chair and Communications Chair , respectively .
I ’ m grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that helped me grow so much !
Ex animo ,
