“ I thought you ’ d learned from last time ,” Artemis chuckles as we walk along a cliff overlooking the forest . I shrug , feigning nonchalance .
“ It ’ s high time for a rematch .”
My sister scoffs lightly but accepts the challenge . After all , another win would safeguard her place at Zeus ’ s side . Turning toward the forest , I nock an arrow . Artemis points to a bird halfway between us and the sea . The bow groans as I draw the string taut against my cheek and I hold my breath as the arrow flies . An endless second later , it hits its mark , but Artemis ’ s smug look stings . She pulls an arrow from her quiver .
“ I doubt you could hit that ,” I say , indicating a small dark speck floating on the horizon and barely visible in the twilight . Artemis laughs . Before I can speak again , she aims and releases the bowstring . I would swear I heard the arrow hit its target .
I feel Zeus ’ s expectant eyes boring into my face . “ Well ?”
“ She hit his temple .” Zeus ’ eyes widen . “ Believe me , Orion will no longer be a distraction .”
