The Medusa Creative Writing Contest is available to students at any level who won a gold medal in the current year ’ s Medusa Mythology Exam . Participating students submit a creative piece of writing in response to the annual prompt . Submissions are judged on their creativity , incorporation of elements of Greco-Roman mythology that enhance the narrative , mechanics , and overall impressions . Winning submissions receive a literary prize and certificate .
Megan Fajardo is a high school senior with a love for stories . Mythology and writing have been her passions from a young age , and now she is putting pen to paper with poems and short fiction . Beyond writing , Megan plays a multitude of sports , draws illustrations , and reads an endless number of books .
About the piece : As the oldest of three siblings myself , I wanted to uncover the sibling rivalries that likely conspired on Olympus . Surely , Artemis and Apollo are no different than most siblings , searching for accolades and attention . I think Apollo ' s fight to be seen , by mortals and immortals alike , is a reflection of the daunting comparison he faces and the contests he must win to have a place in his family . It gives a deeper , more touching motivation behind his search for love .
