As school districts opt for hybrid or fully online teaching,

Chris Buzcek has curated a variety of novellas to use online!

Salvete omnes! So many new Latin novellas have been published in recent times, and as several schools across the country are adopting a virtual or hybrid model for this school

year, many authors are making their works accessible as online texts. The following is a list of authors and publishers who are selling or offering their works to teachers and students in PDF form.

Pomegranate Beginnings

Rachel Ash, Miriam Patrick, and Bob Patrick are offering their novellas to teachers for free as a PDF. The only things they ask are that you do not share the PDF files with others except your students and that you purchase their books when you return to the classroom fully. Contact Rachel, Miriam, and Bob via their website Stepping into CI or Pomegranate Beginnings. Their novellas are: Pluto: Fabula Amoris, Eurydice: Fabula Amoris, Camilla, and Itinera Petri: Flammae Ducant.

Bombax Press

Rachel Cunning offers her novellas as an online classroom set for $150 each. She writes engaging stories based on mythology and ancient culture for various levels of Latin. Licenses are available for purchase through the website Bombax Press.

Choose from Cupido et Psyche, Ira Veneris, Domini Secretum, Medea et Peregrinus Pulcherrimus, Pegasus et Bellerophon, and Ridiculi et Horribiles Dei et Deae.

Arianne Belzer-Carroll Arianne also offers $150 digital licenses for her novellas: Lucia, Puella Mala; Lucia Heros; and Fortuna Fortibus Favet (a choose-your-own-adventure style book about Vesuvius!). Find out more at her website

The Comprehensibilibuddy.

Andrew Olimpi and Lance Piantaggini

Andrew Olimpi and Lance Piantaggini have teamed up to make their Comprehensible Classics and Pisoverse novella series available online via Storylabs.

You can purchase single novellas, three-packs, or go All Access and have every title at your convenience.

Peter Sipes has made his Sisyphus: Rex Improbus novella available on Scribd, which can be accessed by following this link.

Christopher Buczek

Much like Pomegranate Beginnings, I will gladly offer PDF files of all three of my published novellas, Iter Mirabile Dennis et Debrae, Maximus et Caecilia, and Itinera Liviae et Amicorum on the condition that you share only with your students and purchase copies of the books once you safely return to the classroom. I will also include activities to go with the novellas. Email me at [email protected] for more information. If you are interested, I can also share two unpublished novellas with materials (Fabula Dioclis et Florae and Aluna et Caelius), under the condition that proper author credit is given.

These works are valuable resources and will help your students develop a strong Latin reading proficiency. I highly suggest novellas as a foundation for teaching in these times.
