“ This proclamation means a great deal to LGBTQIA + residents of Corpus Christi ,” said organization President Tom Tagliabue . “ COVID prevented the normal observance of PRIDE Month in June , so it is significant for Mayor McComb and the City to recognize the value of LGBTQIA + individuals and the contributions we make to the quality of life in Corpus Christi . Observing LGBT History Month is a great way of educating the community and encouraging everyone to work together to promote equal protection of all .”
The year 2020 marked the 15 th anniversary of LGBT History Month , which was founded in 1994 by Missouri high-school teacher Rodney Wilson as an annual month-long observance of lesbian , gay , bisexual , and transgender history , and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements . Wilson ’ s vision for the informative and celebratory month was to give educators the opportunity to teach students about lesbian , gay , bisexual , and transgender ( LGBT ) people , history , and events , which played a significant role in creating positive school climates for LGBT students . LGBT History Month is a now month-long celebration specific to Hungary , the United States , the United Kingdom , Canada , Australia , Brazil , Greenland , and the city of Berlin .
