WhatIf...

What happened and what didn't

What if Elizabeth was an only child?

She would have grown up very differently. She would have had more attention of her caring father but also would have had to suffer through hours more of her mother’s fussiness. If she had grown under the scrutinizing care of her mother, Elizabeth may have grown up to be one of those “normal” polite ladies common place during her time and actually end up marrying Mr. Collins.

What if Elizabeth grew up in our generation?

That would be fun wouldn’t it? Although Elizabeth would be still a great character, she would not be as unique or unusual in our time period. Some of the most defining characteristics of Elizabeth were that she was independent and witty, yet in our generation all of those qualities are quite easily found in women. I still would love to see her interactions take place in the current era but she would not be as memorable.

What if Elizabeth was a male?

Well that really would change the whole story would it not? If she was male she would obtain the land her father owns and live comfortably and be very independent. The whole book still can be about romance but males generally do not swoon or talk about women amongst themselves as women do about men.

What if zombies invaded over Pride and Prejudice?

Well there is a whole book about that already so there is not much to add on here.

The book is called Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

What if Elizabeth had access to the internet while living in her correct time period?

Well, after the initial shock and hours of trying to figure out how to use the machine, she will throw the machine away and ignore it forever. (Probably not something that would happen. But I feel like throwing away my electronics away sometimes because of how annoying it is, and I grew up with technology. She probably will be far too frustrated with how to use the machine to be ever be able to properly use the technology.)

What if Elizabeth had a facebook account (or any other social media account)?

Would she be popular? People would be interested in her stories of love and laments but after a while not as much people will pay attention to her. The attention spans of normal internet users are far too short to listen all throughout her same love story. Although the book was quite long, there are several gaps of time (sometimes weeks to month) that would be quite boring if Elizabeth had access to the internet in which she would lament all the time.
