Cookies Baking cookies is perhaps the most highly anticipated (and delicious) holiday task. Spread holiday cheer with our festive cookie recipes fit for any holiday celebration. O L D - FA S H I O N E D Iced Sugar Cookies Prep Time: 50 mins Ingredients: Cook Time: 10 min/batch 1 cup butter, softened 1 ½ cup sugar 1 egg ½ cup sour cream 1 tsp. vanilla extract 4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted 1 tsp. baking powder ½ tsp. baking soda ½ tsp. salt ½ tsp. cinnamon, ground 2 cups confectioners’ sugar 1 tsp. vanilla extract ¼ tsp. salt 3 to 4 Tbsp. heavy whipping cream Food coloring and sprinkles Total Time: 60 mins Serves: 5 dozen Directions: Cookies 1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then sour cream and vanilla. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; gradually beat into creamed mixture. 2. Divide dough into three portions. Shape each into a disk: wrap in plastic. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until easy to handle. 3. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion of dough to ¼ thickness. Cut with floured cookie cutters to prevent sticking. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. 4. Bake in preheated oven at 350° F for 10-12 minutes or until light brown. Remove to wire rack to cool completely. Icing 5. In a small bowl, mix the confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, salt and enough to reach desired consistency. Tint with food coloring. 6. Decorate cookies as desired with icing and fun sprinkles. Tips: You can freeze unbaked cookie cutouts on baking sheets until firm. Place in freezer bags. Freeze up to 3 months. No need to thaw. You can bake cookies as directed, adding an extra minute or two to baking time. 23 24
