Previews Restless Echoes by Mai Griffin | Page 5

In Life and Death there is no Black and White , No core construct that always must be right, No path or light that clearly shows the way But filters through a Deadly Shade of Grey. When some can hear and others single sight How can they find a soul to lead them to the light? Ghostly Echoes make confusion and tend to disarray, So pander to the madness of what the seers say In Death’s dark realm, where none of us may stray, The light glints through a Poisonous Shade of Grey. A Glimmer glimpsed, beyond a heart’s endeavour, Where lost souls wander in their dark forever. A soul that’s lost in Death’s last cunning sway Can still fright the living from the depths of their decay. A Poisonous Echo, sent by the unforgiving, Reaches out, with hate, to scar and maim the living. Now mourners gather, to share a lasting glance, Where grief full memories perform a final dance and movement stills, as with departing breath, the music plays the last Grey Masque of Death As each note rises, to reach its audience The spirits strain to meet each consequence When souls conspire to circumvent the truth Their Dangerous Echoes ululate sans ruth. Ghostly movements flicker through the night, Where mortals peer and seek to soothe their fright, The living lost far from the light of day, Where shadows play their Haunting Shades of Grey. The Haunting Echoes of lives long lost Resonate without a single thought to cost. Revenging wraiths seek living dreams to claim, And guilty souls who need to take their blame Buildings loom, stark, cloaked in white And ruined windows blink, transfixed by pale moonlight Rustling shadows flutter and, windless, sway As night gives way to Ghostly Shades of Grey Long lost spirits seek to find their past, Locked in a purgatory they themselves have cast, With earthly ties they cannot seem to sever, Restless Echoes mock their last endeavour Anon
