Gavin’s directions were clear, and, after several
turns, they soon spotted the house – the family home of
Dave’s son. It was on a boundary of the estate, almost at
the end of the road. A small patch of wasteland
separated it from the last half-dozen houses on their
side ...fortunately not big enough, or private enough, to
attract local gangs! On all sides of the estate, there were
woodlands or open fields, and their property was located
on the perimeter farthest away from the main road, with
views of the countryside beyond; there seemed no
reason why it, alone, should be haunted.
Some garage doors were creaking open and a few
cars passed by as Polly parked where they had a clear
view of the whole corner without intruding on anyone’s
privacy. “Why have we stopped?” Sarah asked. “It was
interesting to see the house and surroundings, but I
really would rather leave now.”
In an amazed tone, Polly replied. “But you asked me
to pull over – I did think it was rather odd.” One look
made her realise that whatever she heard, it was
nothing to do with Sarah. A few years ago, they
discovered that Polly was clairaudient, but she had
heard nothing out of this world since then. Now, instead
of being worried, Polly was thrilled. “We can wait a little
while, surely. There must be a reason for what I heard.”
Sarah agreed and laughingly suggested that they should
sit quietly and await further instructions.
The next few minutes seemed like thirty, as the
seconds dragged by. There had been no movement
anywhere, since they stopped, although distant exhaust
