Previews Haunting Echoes by Mai Griffin | Page 17

Mai Griffin There was no point in going back to bed. By the time they talked themselves out, it was almost time for Polly’s niece to arrive. Pat had taken over her aunt’s daily chores a year or so ago, when Sarah and Clarrie insisted that at Polly’s age her duties should be light. Although indignant initially, Polly settled well into her new routine, making sure the household ran smoothly and doing most of the cooking. Keeping Sarah company, freeing Clarrie to come and go as she pleased, was no hardship – Polly would not have changed places with anyone else on earth. Sarah was regretting now, that she succumbed to the urge to leave her bed for a drink… If only she had laid her head on the pillow again, she might have seen more. The half-glimpsed poster carried a photograph – a young man perhaps – and a name, but her memory failed her; she could recall nothing of the lettering or the signpost …if only she had stared at it long enough to see any of the places on it! She sighed heavily, but was sure that if she relaxed and allowed the troubled spirit to come through again more would be shown to her soon. As she walked back upstairs to wash and get ready to face the day, she heard the bustle of Pat’s arrival downstairs. Although Pat sensed an air of excitement about her aunt and commented, Polly was far too discreet to gossip about Sarah or anything to do with her psychic abilities. In isolation, the dream was not important, but who knew what would follow? Having several times witnessed the way the other world worked she felt certain that the dream was just a prelude to another amazing episode in their lives, but she tried to curb her enthusiasm. 16
