The other amazing thing I discovered is that this transformation can be both real and unreal, occurred or not occurred. It could be just a thought. The body responds emotionally to something that is real or not. That is why if you wake up in the middle of the night with a cold sweat and your heart pounding because of a bad dream, the dream was not real. But the body responds as if it were. The same goes for a patient that believes their spouse no longer loves them or is cheating on them. I’ve worked with patients where I’ve asked, “Do you know it’s real? Is it true?
