The Maple Grove landscape continues to change with the addition of new businesses and residential developments.
The first phase of the renovation and expansion of the Community Center is underway. The half-cent sales tax is funding $ 90 million for the improvements. The city is also using state bonding funds, federal grants, sponsorships and association dues to fund the $ 116 million project.
The Community Center opened in 1997. Plans include new pools and new family locker rooms, more space for senior programs, expanded event and banquet space, an area for the arts, a third sheet of ice and infrastructure investments. Infrastructure details include updating the roof and mechanical systems.
The first phase will include a third sheet of ice, new locker rooms and an updated entrance and lobby area.
Construction began last summer and will be completed in late summer.
Also part of the future expansion of the Community Center is the portion of the building currently occupied by Life Time Fitness. The city and Life Time were able to agree to a land exchange agreement. The city will take over the fitness club’ s portion of the Community Center building and Life Time will build a new flagship athletic country club on 17.5 acres in the Minnesota Health Village. The“ village” is located near Maple Grove Hospital, just south of Highway 610 and west of Home Depot. Life Time will stay in its current location until Dec. 31, 2028, while the new building is constructed.
