Osseo opens new businesses, looks ahead to the future

By ALICIA MILLER alicia. miller @ apgecm. com
The city of Osseo continues to see new business come to town- and it’ s looking forward to the future.
In the past year, the city has been working with the Red Pine Group to create a city-owned municipal marijuana dispensary.
The Osseo City Council has approved a memorandum of understanding with the Red Pine Group
related to the operation of a municipal cannabis retail store and authorized the city administrator to submit a cannabis business application.
The memorandum is intended to provide the Office of Cannabis Management with information and assurances that will be needed to review and approve the city’ s application for a municipal dispensary.
According to the city, the memorandum of understanding establishes that the city, as the license holder, will maintain ownership and control of the business and license. This also creates a single record that can be submitted with the application and which confirms the City Council authorizes submitting the application.
The city is taking next steps to potentially reconfigure real estate in its downtown. Recently, city workers removed several dying trees in Boerboom
Park that were deemed unhealthy. The city has been working on potential plans for either expanding the park to take over the entire city block or use some of the space for housing city departments.
The city also purchased the old Osseo Press building at 33 Second St. NE. The Police Department has considered moving into this site after a potential remodel. No official decisions have been made at this time.
