St. Michael Fire: Protecting the community

The St. Michael Fire and Rescue Department was established in 1917 and boasts over 100 years of service to the community. The department serves the entire city of St. Michael, which is approximately 37 square miles.
St. Michael fire has 30 paid on-call members and five reserve firefighters. The department currently occupies two fire stations. Central Station( Station # 1) is located at 216 Main St. S. and Frankfort Station( Station # 2) is located at 12239 42nd St. NE.
Its leadership team includes the fire chief, assistant fire chief, district fire chief, four captains, three lieutenants and one fire marshal.
Each fire department member is trained and state-certified to the minimum requirements of Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT ops and certified as either an emergency medical responder or emergency medical technician through the Minnesota State Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board. Many firefighters choose additional state certifications in areas such as hazardous materials technician, fire instructor and fire officer.
The St. Michael Fire and Rescue Department has a number of firefighters who are members of the Wright County Fire Investigation Team and members of the Wright County Special Rescue Unit. The department responds to more than 700 calls per year.
The department works closely with the Wright County Sheriff ' s Office, Allina Ambulance, and the fire departments of surrounding communities to respond to service calls quickly, and with highly trained personnel to handle fire and medical emergencies.
The department has two front-line engines, a heavy rescue / utility truck, a 1,800-gallon tender, two rescue trucks, a chief SUV, a grass truck, a six-wheel ATV and an inflatable boat.
The department also has a fire explorer program for ages 14-21, training up a new generation of first responders through a partnership with Boys Scouts of America and Learning for Life. Those that participate in Fire Explorers Post 3172 may choose to continue their training and join the department’ s Reserve Division when they turn 18 years of age.
