MARKET FIRST, PARTNER IN
Closing the Primary Care Gap
More than 6 million people in Florida lack sufficient access to a primary care physician. That makes Florida worst in the nation in access to primary care.
Jacksonville University is working to change that. We’ ve partnered with Availity, the nation’ s largest real-time health information network to create a pathway for nurse practitioners to practice independently.
Under a new state law signed by the Governor in 2020, qualified NPs in Florida can earn their independent license, allowing them to offer primary care without an attending physician. In just six months, JU built the continuing education curriculum required under the law, and Availity funded $ 100,000 in scholarships for working NPs to complete the self-paced online courses.
Our goal is to launch 1,000 independently licensed primary care NPs to serve Florida’ s growing population and impact the quality of care for millions of people in our state.
" Aging patients, retiring physicians, and the current pandemic are creating a perfect storm for access to care, and change needs to happen now.”
