“
I was responsible for paying for
my entire college tuition, so receiving a
generous scholarship like this lightened
the financial burden on me. It also gave
me a sense of pride and achievement that
I would have even been considered for
such a prestigious award. This scholarship
solidified my commitment and gratitude
toward GMercyU as I knew that I would
not have received anything like this at a
different university.
”

Kathleen and Alan Owens

In Mr. Maguire’s book, “Just Show
Up Every Day,” he provides us with six
steps to success. I have used these steps
throughout college and in my career to
get me where I am today. Because they
believed in me, I am successful.

the University of Pennsylvania Health
System and Magee Rehabilitation
Hospital. He was also named to the
Dean’s List and was a member of the

Now: Omar is currently a Registered
Respiratory Therapist at The Brooklyn
Hospital Center and for SmartVest ®

entrepreneur and is the Co-Founder of
several businesses, including Automated
Charge, Inc., a smartphone-charging
kiosk; Blend on Canvas, an online art
shop; and an upcoming non-profit called
Utopia Health, which supports the
homeless in the Miami, Fla. region.
” “
I feel like I had an advantage
compared to my New York counterparts,
the students coming from New York
schools. In GMercyU’s program, my
clinical work at HUP [Hospital of the
University of Pennsylvania] and at
Magee [Rehabilitation Hospital] made
me see many different types of patients
– and some of the equipment I used
I haven’t even seen yet at my current
hospital.
