ANN PHALEN, P h D, CRNP, NNP-BC Dean, Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions In the nursing field, Ann Phalen has done it all. She’s worked in hospitals as a neonatal nurse, conducted research in academia, worked in nursing administration, and more. The depth and breadth of Ann’s expertise is unparalleled, and she is thrilled to join the GMercyU community at a pivotal moment and help guide the Frances M. Maguire School of Nursing and Health Professions into a new era of patient and healthcare. Ann was drawn to the opportunity for growth at GMercyU, and all the exciting possibilities on the horizon. With a few months under her belt, Ann is ready to dive into her new role. She’s already helped coordinate the start of the Fall 2018 semester, prepared for the State Board for Nursing visit, and spent time meeting with each of her Nursing and Health Professions faculty, staff, and admins to get to know her team on a personal level. She wants her faculty and the GMercyU community to know she’s approachable and is willing to roll up her sleeves and jump into the fray with them to make things work. The thing that Ann loves most about the nursing profession as a whole is that it is so versatile (as she so clearly shows with her career history). She always jokes, “You never have to leave the profession if you get bored.” Ann is looking forward to guiding GMercyU towards future success. Ann holds a PhD, a Post-Master’s NNP Certificate, and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Misericordia University. FAVORITE ACCOMPLISHMENT: In October 2018, Ann was recognized by the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) and received the National Distinguished Service Award for her continued service and dedication to the organization over the years. NANN is committed to developing and delivering the tools and connections needed to evolve the profession and recognizes the outstanding contributions of individuals practicing in neonatal nursing.
