Meet the De You’ll always see them buzzing around campus like busy bees, striving to make Gwynedd Mercy University a better place for everyone: students, faculty, staff, and the community alike. Their work ethic and drive is unparalleled, each Dean and our new Vice President for Academic Affairs earning many accolades and accomplishments LISA MCGARRY, P h D Dean, School of Arts and Sciences Lisa McGarry, PhD, always knew she wanted to teach. To pursue her passion for teaching, she left her job as a Marketing Vice President and began her journey at the then Gwynedd-Mercy College in 1991 as an adjunct professor in English. She has been a prominent member of the GMercyU community ever since. Over the years, Lisa has served in numerous roles including the Director of the Academic Resource Center, English professor, Program Coordinator, Department Chair, and eventually, became the Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences in 2011. I can’t “ imagine being anywhere else. ” 12 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Since joining the GMercyU community 27 years ago, Lisa has come to see GMercyU as her second home. Not only is it the place where she got her start, but it’s also where her son, Neil, grew up and earned his bachelor’s degree. There’s so much about the University that she loves, but Lisa always comes back to the students. Being able to engage with students on a daily basis and help them grow as individuals and professionals reminds Lisa why she loves working in higher education, and specifically at GMercyU. On top of that, Lisa is thankful for her hardworking and dedicated colleagues who make each day a little brighter. Lisa earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Temple University, her master’s degree in Modern British and American Literature from Villanova University, and her PhD in English from Lehigh University. FAVORITE ACCOMPLISHMENT: FUN FACTS: Lisa is very proud of her contribution towards instituting the E-STEM Degree and Scholarship Program at GMercyU. The program supports Ethics in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics majors through a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), which provides scholarships, ethics training, study skills and peer mentoring for participants. The program resulted in the University’s first NSF Grant, the largest grant in GMercyU’s history. Cats or Dogs? Cats Favorite Season?
