In the eastern parts of the United States, in Connecticut lives the tribe of Mohegans. Stephanie Fielding, a 60-year old member of the tribe has dedicated her whole life to reviving Mohegan language (Cohen). Ms. Fielding says that “in order for a language to survive and resurrect, it needs people talking it, and for people to talk it, there has to be a society that works on it” (Cohen). In addition to this, she admitted that it is difficult to sustain a language and she is still not fluent (Cohen).
