JAGUARS READY FOR DRESS REHEARSAL AGAINST THE ATLANTA
FALCONS IN THIRD PRESEASON GAME
JACKSONVILLE – This is as real as it gets… at
least in the preseason.
The Jacksonville Jaguars host the Atlanta
Falcons tonight in the third preseason game,
usually the week teams use as a dress
rehearsal of sorts for the regular season
opener.
You will likely see the starters play the fi rst
half, some even into the second half in their
fi nal true tune-up before visiting the New York
Giants Week 1.
Many starters will likely not even see the fi eld
in the fi nal preseason game next Thursday
against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, giving way
to players trying to prove themselves and make
the Jaguars roster – or another team’s roster –
at fi nal cuts following the fi nal preseason game.
I talk to the players about,” Head Coach Doug
Marrone said in his postgame press conference
after the win over the Vikings.
“In other words, we will look at those penalties,
we’ll see what is being called and what we can
do a better job of,” Marrone added. “We’ve really
been working hard on being able to play a clean
game and being able to play it right. So that is
the number one priority.”
For the fi rst time in the preseason, the Jaguars
were twice penalized for the new foul of lowering
the helmet to initiate contact. Cornerback A.J.
Bouye was the fi rst fl agged following a fi rst-
quarter tackle.
The meeting schedules during the week
moved more toward a regular game-week
feel. A little more game-plan was introduced
for the opponent, to give players and staff a
run-through of installation. Practice was open
to media for only 20 minutes each day. The
locker room opened to media for the fi rst time
in training camp.
Penalty adjustments
Last week the Jaguars were called for 13
penalties for 140 yards against the Vikings,
including fi ve 15-yard fouls.
“Obviously my number one concern is the
penalties, so you look at that and that’s what
