2 mixing bowls
Apple corer
Knife
Fruit or vegetable peeler
Measuring cups
Pie or tart pan
Materials:
Cutting board
Rubber or wooden spatula
Flatt-bottom drinking glass or extra measuring cup
Spoon
Microwave or sauce pan
Oven
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°.
2. Peel, core, and evenly slice five to six large Granny Smith
apples; place the slices in a large mixing bowl.
3. Toss the slices with one cup brown sugar, one tsp. vanilla
extract, one tsp. cinnamon and either the juice of one lemon
or a quarter cup of lemon juice. Set aside in refrigerator
while crust is prepared.
4. Crush two full packages of graham crackers to form uniform
crumbs. Pour the crumbs in a clean mixing bowl.
5. Melt two sticks – or two cups – of butter in a microwave
or on a sauce pan on the stove.
6. Pour melted butter onto graham cracker crumbs and stir
together.
7. Add one tsp. cinnamon and one tsp. vanilla extract to
graham cracker crust mixture.
8. Transfer crust mixture to a clean pie pan or tart pan. Using
a flat-bottomed drinking glass or a clean measuring cup,
firmly press the crust into the bottom of the pan. Press the
crust up the sides of the pan as well until the mixture is even
around the pan.
9. Layer the apples together by grouping slices in twos or
threes and setting them round side up on top of the crust
(see photo for reference).
10. Pour remaining sugar and apple juice mixture from
apple bowl on top of layered slices.
11. Sprinkle the top of the apple slices with brown sugar and
dot the top with three tbs. of thinly sliced butter.
12. Place tart into preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35
minutes.
13. Remove and let cool for an hour.
14. Enjoy!
