OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY ROUTINE
Please use the following“ Daily Routine” pages to note specific exercises, instructions, assistance needs and equipment used to improve the respective areas of activity performance, self-care and safety. Use this space below to include any other recommendations provided by your occupational therapist:
Role of Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists( OTs) are healthcare professionals who help people maintain their quality of life through engagement in meaningful activities or“ occupations.” OTs consider a person’ s motivation and goals for activity participation, how activities are incorporated into routines, the physical and social environments where activities are completed and the influence of physical and cognitive abilities on activities.
OTs can work with a person to restore and improve limitations in body functions, teach ways to modify activities, instruct on use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology, assess driving and adapt the physical environment to increase safety and accessibility.
An OT meets a person where they are and can provide a variety of treatment interventions to meet their needs and abilities no matter where they are in their symptom progression. It is helpful to see an OT soon after diagnosis to help decrease prematurely resigning from meaningful activities, increase sense of independence and decrease safety risks earlier.
