Guildford Grammar Preparatory School Writing Festival 2019 How Rain Helps by Fleur Le Coultre (continued) Jenifer giggled. Even though she had only known this boy for a couple of minutes, she was beginning to like him. Using the same tone she said, ‘’Well, I’m Jenifer, what’s your name?” Rolling his eyes, the boy replied, “Well, I am Charles. Done. Dusted. Now leave.” ‘’Hide. Now!’’ Charles nodded and did what Jenifer said and hid behind the curtain, again. Flash Fiction by Michael McCaughey ‘’Mum! I’m here!’’ Jenifer stepped out of the room. Jenifer’s mum gave a look as if she was saying “why were you in there?” Matilda sighed and shrugged her shoulders, she wasn’t that angry. ‘’Hey, hey, hey! Not so fast,” said Jenifer grabbing Charles’ arm just in time before he reached the door. ‘’ Jenifer! Where are you?’’ Mrs Ashwood was calling. Both children gave each other frightened glances, they both knew what each other was thinking, Jenifer knew that her mum didn’t know about Charles and would take him away. Matilda hated children that weren’t her own, and especially Charles. I haven’t been able to tell you why the Ashwood’s were there because the house made too much noise on windy/rainy days and they had come to complain again. If she complained once more she declared that she (Matilda) will knock down the whole building altogether. If she found Charles, Matilda would send him to an orphanage and hide him altogether. 23 Hello my dog is called Rusty. She has just recently had her third. I will be keeping a puppy in this litter this time. The puppy is called Penny she will follow you everywhere, she will also jump on you if she wants hugs. She loves to get pats and she will love the belly rubs. She likes the attention. When you open the front door she will greet you with kisses and bites. She is funny. If she wants to she will go to the toilet on our floor instead of going through the doggy door and going to the toilet outside. I think she is adorable. If you put the dog on your bed and put her next to you she will lick, kick and scratch you. If you pick Penny up she will also bite your ear. Penny is young but fast for a puppy. Penny is full of pouncing energy. My other dog Rusty is very stinky because that’s just what happens. They get stinky because of taking care of the puppies’ bums and other disgusting stuff.
