Communication and Preparation
Updating Personal Details
Teacher and parent communication (continued)
Purpose Method
Homework diary Students in Years 1-6 have a homework diary, which can be a very useful tool for
communication between home and school. The homework diary should be acknowledged
with a signature from parents on a regular basis. Teachers will write a comment in the diary
throughout each term. Additionally, some class teachers are using the computer program
Seesaw to communicate with students and families.
End-of-semester reports will be sent to parents.
Reporting and work
samples
Work samples are sent home when finished.
Exhibitions of inquiry learning throughout the year.
Work displayed in classroom.
Parent Interviews Interviews are arranged during the last two weeks of Term 1 and Term 3. However, additional
meetings can be arranged at any time during the year, by speaking to teachers to organise a
mutually convenient date and time, or by emailing the class teacher or by placing a request in
the child’s homework diary.
Seesaw In Years 1-6, staff communicate regularly through the diary, regular emails and Seesaw.
Kindy and Pre-Primary In Kindergarten and Pre-Primary, communication generally takes place on a more informal
basis, when staff are able to speak to parents during drop off and pick up times before and
after school. Seesaw and email is also used regularly for updates and sharing of information
about classroom events. A notice board outside each classroom provides information to
families about weekly curriculum content and daily events.
