How can I tell if I have PPD ? PPD symptoms can vary greatly among women , so a health care provider can help figure out whether the symptoms the woman is feeling are due to PPD or something else . Women who experience any of these symptoms should see a health care provider right away .
Is PPD the same as the baby blues ? No . PPD lasts longer and is more serious than the “ baby blues ”, which is a term describing the feelings of worry , unhappiness , and fatigue that many women experience after having a baby . Babies require a lot of care , so it ’ s common for mothers to be worried about or tired from providing that care . The baby blues includes feelings that are somewhat mild , last a week or two , and go away on their own . If you have feelings that last longer than two weeks , tell your health care provider . He or she can check to see if you may have PPD .
How is PPD treated ? Your health care provider may ask you some questions , discuss your symptoms , or perform medical tests to determine if you have PPD . Treatment can include counseling , medication , and / or a support group . It is also important to get enough sleep and maintain a healthy diet . uabmedicine . org 27
