he t n i la p x E to Survive y b a B e h t r r fo u c c o t s mu h c i h sw e g n Cha Inside the woman’s womb, the source of nourishment or blood supply for the growing foetus is the placenta. But during childbirth, the foetus has been already separated from its source of nourishment which is the placenta. Therefore, the newborn will adjust from time to time in order for thee newborn to survive in the outside world. First and foremost, the newborn will already be apart from the placenta that is why the source of blood supply will already be redirected and will undergo adjustments especially in the blood circulation. The source of oxygenated blood inside the womb is the placenta. But when the baby is in the outside world already, this will be shifted already to the lungs which is already matured by that time. Therefore, its oxygenated blood will already take place in the lungs to be able to be distributed all over the body. Another change is the closure of the shunts of the heart causing it to prevent the mix up of unoxygenated and oxygenated blood. The blood circulation is shifted as the shunts will be closing normally during delivery stage. This is how the newborn can survive during the first stages of life in the outside world. As time goes by, the newborn will be able to adapt the changes that may happen as he or she grows up.(embryology.ch,2016) (Standfordchildrens.org 2016) 13
