Sermon construction:
help!
‘Many thanks for the inspirational
Spring issue of Preach. I am a
Methodist-trained lay preacher
and Anglican reader. Your article
entitled “Stand and Deliver” led
me to think about homiletics in
general and how this is an issue
for me. I was never trained or
given help as to how to “construct,
build or develop” a sermon. All I
have managed to do is read a few
American papers on the subject.
Could this be a topic for an article
in a subsequent issue?’

Them and us
‘May I express my deep
appreciation of the Summer 2015
edition of Preach? You have done

of the “Progressive Christianity
Network”, I have to say I was very
happy with the magazine and
its representation of evangelical
orthodoxy. Furthermore when I
was accredited as a local preacher I
gave a solemn pledge not to preach
anything contrary to Methodist
doctrine. This is a pledge I have kept
‘I’d just like to thank you so much
for the two copies of Preach (and
Ichthus) that dropped through my
door this morning. Despite being a
long-time supporter, somehow I’d
dropped off the mailing list and it
was only when I was shown a copy
at a recent preachers’ meeting that
I realised that I’d not heard from
you in some time.
