Marcello Manca is a manual artist of the
Photoshop age, an artisan of the electronic era.
His process involves modern digital cameras,
state-of-the-art photography studios and
advanced image manipulation techniques. But
his comfort area is in sawing wood and cutting
old newspapers, in building his supports by
hand out of jute and cardboard , in mixing his
paints and impressing his canvases, in letting
his brush dance on the surface, then scratching
it with his knives and softening it with his
fingers. It is this unique blend of digital wizardry
and manual craftsmanship that gives his works
their timeless, ethereal feel.
Manca was born in Milan in 1961. He lives near
the shores of Lake Varese with his wife and
children.
