For Bryan, one of the biggest lessons he continues to carry in leadership is learning that being a leader does not always mean having all the answers.
“ One of the biggest adjustments for me has been learning to ask the right questions rather than always trying to provide the answers,” he shares.
That mindset has helped shape a more collaborative leadership approach, one that values curiosity, openness, and creating space for different perspectives within teams.
Similarly, Michael believes leadership today requires humility and a willingness to continue learning alongside both customers and the organization itself.
“ You have to be willing to listen, learn continuously, and adapt,” he says.“ The moment you think you already know everything is usually the moment growth stops.”
For leaders navigating an industry changing at an unprecedented pace, staying connected to people remains one of the most important anchors. Despite the growing role of technology and digital integration in retail, all three leaders consistently return to the importance of human relationships within organizations.
Jamille, whose work often involves coordinating multiple teams, departments, and external partners simultaneously, believes trust and communication remain essential in moving organizations forward effectively.
“ Strong execution really comes from trust, communication, and people feeling supported in what they do,” she says.
Having spent years working closely with operational teams behind the scenes, Jamille also speaks deeply about the importance of valuing the people quietly helping shape the retail experience every day.
“ That perspective keeps me grounded and continues to shape how I approach leadership and decision-making,” she reflects.
What emerges from their shared perspectives is a different kind of retail leadership, one that is less centered on command and control, and more focused on stewardship, collaboration, and collective growth.
Today’ s retail landscape moves faster than ever before. Consumer expectations continue to change, digital transformation continues to reshape engagement, and businesses are constantly challenged to remain relevant in an increasingly competitive environment. Yet amid all these changes, one thing remains constant: retail will always be about people.
For Michael, Bryan, and Jamille, the future of retail is not only defined solely by innovation, technology, or expansion. It is shaped by how businesses continue to create meaningful experiences, build trust, strengthen relationships, and remain connected to the communities and markets they serve.
They represent a generation of leaders shaped by both legacy and transformation. While they bring fresh perspectives and new ways of thinking into their respective organization, they also carry forward the values that helped build some of the country’ s most enduring retail brands.
At the same time, they recognize that the future of the industry cannot be built in isolation. Organizations like PRA continue to play an important role in fostering collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and collective growth across the retail community, especially as the industry navigates increasingly complex challenges.
For Bryan, this sense of shared progress is one of the industry’ s greatest strengths.
“ Organizations like the PRA play a very important role in enabling collective progress within the industry,” he says.“ They foster collaboration rather than competition, creating an environment where companies can learn from one another and continue to push the industry forward together.”
That same spirit of collaboration, mentorship, and continues learning is something all three leaders hope the next generation will to continue to carry forward.
Even as they introduce new ideas and ways of thinking into their organizations, they remain deeply aware that the foundations built by previous generations continue to shape the businesses they lead today.
Perhaps that is what makes this new generation of retail leaders distinct. They are not simply focused on changing the industry quickly, but on guiding it forward thoughtfully, while ensuring that growth, innovation, and people continue to move together.
Shaping the Next Chapter of Philippine Retail
Jamille Thai-Lee
As the PRA celebrates five decades of supporting and strengthening the retail industry, the emergence of a new generation of leaders reflects more than simply a shift in leadership. It reflects the continued evolution of Philippine retail itself.
As they help shape the future of Philippine retail, their message to future leaders remains grounded in values that feel increasingly important in today’ s rapidly changing world: stay curious, continue learning, and never lose sight of people.
Because beyond the stores, systems, platforms, and strategies, retail has always been, and will always be, about understanding people and creating experiences that genuinely matter.
And as Philippine retail enters its next chapter, that human connection may ultimately remain its greatest strength.
