skills. Upon his release, Akon started working more on his music and the rest as they
say is history. Akon has four albums to his name with about 95 nominations and 36
awards won in his career to date, while being the first solo artist too hold the number
one & two spots on the Billboard Hot hundred chart twice. Akon’s collaborations in
the music industry reads like a roll call of the who-is-who in the entertainment in-
dustry, both in Africa and on the global stage, having worked with the likes of Michael
Jackson, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Gwen Stefan, PSquare and a host of others, having
over 300 guest appearances to his name.
Akon is a decent actor having featured in a number of movies, while he has disclosed
in the past that he is planning a reality TV show featuring his two look-alike brothers
going around pretending to be him in order to enjoy celeb status treatment.
Akon is the founder of two successful record labels; Konvict Music and Kon Live Dis-
tribution. Akon also has clothing lines, Konvict Clothing, featuring urban streetwear
including denim jeans, hoodies, T-shirts and hats, and Aliaune which is the high-end
line, featuring unisex clothing, which includes blazers, denim jeans and other items.
Akon owns a diamond mine in South Africa, which he is very quick to point out avoids
the use of blood and conflict diamonds.
