Connector Briefs
In this issue, we probe perhaps the most important question anyone will ever ask: “Why are we here?”
We are always interested in what people believe in, especially our readers. Do they practice a formal faith? Do they characterize themselves as spiritual? Or even something else? This month's Roundup pages gives eaders a chance to answer these questions and describe what a "higher power" means to them, personally.
The Connector does not shy away from controversy, either. Our cover story, by Patricia Vaccarino, questions the long-standing ban on women serving in high positions within the Catholic Church. As a companion piece, our ground reporter Edith Lynn Beer writes about the controversial remarks made by the Archbishop of Denver that opened some unhealed wounds between the Catholic and Jewish communities.
But most of our "God Issue" is about personal journeys of discovery, such as our business coaches and netwrokers Dave Bresler and Dhylles Davis wrestling with a definition of "god." We also have Barbara Lloyd McMichael visiting a summer camp for Sikhs; "Sesh" Ramaswami discusses the virtues of being "happy"; Sally Haver on the evolution of her beliefs; and New Hampshire correspondent Nicole Shank with a tribute to her messy, awkward 20s.
We also embrance the secular in this issue, which inlcudes the first appearance of Broadway Beat, our new monthly column by acclaimed New York theater producer Oliver Roth, who gives us a preview of the upcoming fall season. Plus, we check in with Yuliya Sulemanova and Victoria Snowe on the rise of ultra-luxury retail branding.
