Even though Maureen Elmaleh’s job requires constant brain-work, the first things you’ll notice about her are her big smile and her talent for making you laugh. Maureen is Midwest Sales Director for MIT’s Technology Review which describes itself as “leading the global conversation about technologies that matter.” She works with customers who feel their products would profit by having exposure in a magazine airing the latest technology and science studies. Maureen explains, “We’re able to help our clients leverage the halo of MIT for their brand message.” She studies each issue of Technology Review so that she can recognize the breakthroughs in technology which enables her in turn to understand what company’s brand messages will resonate best in the magazine.

Maureen was born in Colorado and graduated from Colorado University with a B.A. in psychology. After graduating, she left immediately for New York City where it did not take her long to discover the comedy clubs. She describes her introduction to the clubs as, “I had this rotten blind date who took me to the comedy club, Comic Strip. When I listened to the performers, I thought to myself, I can perform as well if not better than those people on the stage and I can do better for myself than this date.” The rest is history. Maureen did end up on the stage of Comedy Strip. During the day, she worked for the American Ski Association. Later, after she had met her husband, Jacques, and was pregnant with their first child, she went on stage at Stand Up NY in New York City.

After their second child was born, Maureen became senior Vice President of MIT’s Technology Review which meant she directed the whole sales team in the United States and Britain. While she and her family loved living in New York City, Maureen realized that the magazine’s Midwest territory needed more attention which she could manage better from the Denver area. The move from Manhattan to Colorado, in addition, offered a more affordable area to raise their children. Today, in between traveling and working with her customers, Maureen sails, hikes and skis with her family in the Rocky Mountains.
