Dr. Jim Janakievski has over twenty years experience as an exceptional dentist and oral surgeon with specific expertise in Periodontics and Prosthodontics. He is currently a faculty member of the University of Washington Dental School and a partner with Dr. David Mathews at Oral Health Specialists, which is a well-established, long-term practice in the Tacoma area that specializes in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry.
In addition to his work in private practice at Oral Health Specialists, Dr. Janakievski is also a highly respected member of the faculty at the University of Washington Dental School. Since 2006, he has been an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Washington. In 2004-5, he was an Assistant Professor and Assistant Clinical Director in the same department. Prior to this post, from 2003-4, he was on staff as a Periodontist at the VA Medical Center, Seattle, WA.
Dr. Jim Janakievski initially received his D.D.S. from the University of Toronto, which was followed by a general practice residency. After spending several years in general dental practice, Dr. Janakievski completed his post-graduate training at the University of Washington, where he received a Certificate in Periodontology with an M.S.D degree and a Fellowship in Prosthodontics.
His many academic accomplishments include Diplomate status in the American Board of Periodontology, a General Practice Dental Residency at St. Clare’s Hospital and additional education at the University of Toronto’s Scarborough College, where he was granted a Faculty Scholarship and a J.W. Billes Scholarship. Dr. Jim Janakievski holds Certifications from the Academy Board of Periodontology, the Western Regional Examining Board, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the National Dental Examining Board of Canada, and the American National Dental Boards.
Dr. Janakievski is known among his peers and colleagues for being highly skilled as a surgeon and he has earned the professional reputation for successfully treating and solving the most difficult and complex cases. He is frequently invited to speak at dental conferences and study clubs throughout North America. He is an active member of the following professional organizations: Academy of Osseointegration, American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Pierce County Dental Association, Washington Society of Periodontists, Academy of General Dentistry, Northwest Network for Dental Excellence, the Society of Contemporary and Progressive Periodontics, and the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He has received numerous academic and professional awards and has written or co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed articles. Some highlights of his awards include excellence in Clinical Teaching from the University of Washington and Outstanding Proficiency in Periodontics from the Western Society of Periodontology.
