Fashion Designer, entrepreneur, bridal shop owner, and working mother and wife, Olga Szwed can add another new job role to her professional dossier—philanthropist. On August 3rd, Olga is launching a charity event Compassion with Fashion to raise funds for two small children who have life-threatening medical needs.

Many charity events and auctions benefit large organizations and often the beneficiaries of the funding are unseen and anonymous except for one or two representative spokespeople. Not so with Compassion with Fashion. The beneficiaries are Preston Scott and Nikol Culver, and their presence is apparent and brings a personal touch to the event.

Six-year-old Preston Scott is very brave and battling for his life against relapsed Medulloblastoma (brain cancer). He was diagnosed in October 2014, had surgery, proton radiation and chemotherapy. He is continuing to receive treatment, but none of these are expected to be a cure. Preston is putting up the fight and won’t be giving up any time soon. It’s been a hard battle, but overall there have been more good days than bad.

By the age of one month, Nikol Culver was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia. It’s a rare liver disease that occurs in the bile ducts of infants. It only can be cured with a liver transplant. During her first year of life, Nikol went through a Kasai surgery, two liver transplant surgeries (her first donor liver failed). In all, our little fighter had 7 complicated and 3 less invasive surgeries. Right now, after all those surgeries, Nikol is on the road of a long recovery.

Sponsored by Olga Szwed of La Belle Reve and the Suléy Group, the charity event features an elegant dinner, live music, and a fashion show. Representative fashion brands include THIRD & LOOM, Victoria Postolit, Elita Couture, MXN Clothing, KateSMensah, and Justin Zachary.

Guests can enjoy fine wine and food while shopping for unique goods and services, mingle with some of Seattle's hottest vendors and enjoy giving to a great cause. There will be raffles, silent & live auctions, a dance party and many surprises. Dress is formal black tie.

Olga Szed’s goal is is to bring community together for a common cause that benefits not only the young children but all of the local and professional businesses that are bringing value to the event.

The Take Back Your Time movement, of which John de Graaf is a co-founder, has been working for many of these things for 14 years, hoping to bring the United States into the 21st Century as it is experienced in most wealthy countries. We will be discussing many of these issues at our Time Matters: National Take Back Your Time Conference at Seattle University August 25-27.

Do think about joining us. Information can be found at www.takebackyourtime.org

The Gallup Poll finds that Americans are 20% happier on weekends than on workdays, yet our work-time seems to be expanding while our leisure is being lost. It doesn’t have to be that way.
