don’t mean ditch class and go to my friend’s house to smoke pot . . .wait . . . did I just say that out loud? Ha! For the record, I don’t do that anymore. Ok, this is what works for me: Ya know how in high school you’d finish history class and put that book in your locker and grab your English lit book and go to that class? Well, I kinda do that in my head when I have to juggle projects – I try to give each project a certain amount of time per day and then move on to the next thing, and the next. And then eat lunch (lunch is my favorite “subject”). Oh – and my “system” can get derailed quickly if I get a call for something that needs immediate attention. That’s when yoga breathing comes in handy!

You’ve recently optioned a screenplay. What can you tell us about it?

There have been so many crazy-good things that fell into place with my film that I’ve been documenting the journey. One example of things falling into place is when I got songs by top artists for the film. And that’s when they let me come on board as a producer. We’re in the process of getting the film packaged.

What do you love the most about being an entertainer?

Everyday I get to do something creative.

What is your greatest passion – personally?

I’m equally obsessed with yoga, music, interior design blogs, organic non-GMO foods, and my bed. Professionally, it's connecting to an audience and self-expression (I’d get a good laugh if those answers got mixed up).

What does it take to succeed at the “business of being funny?” If you could offer any sage advice to someone who wants to get into the business, what would you say?

Well, success has many versions. But here’s what I’ve learned: Don’t give up. Take risks. Be unique. Do something for your business every day. Have fun with it. Don’t give up.

Give us a few examples of successful comedians or name those comedians whom you admire?

There are so many from when I was growing up – Pryor, David Steinberg, Ellen Degeneres, Gary Shandling and more. But, for this purpose I’ll list some of today’s comedians that I admire and I’ve had the pleasure of working with most of them. Louis CK, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Janeane Garofalo, Sarah Silverman, Marc Maron, Maria Bamford, Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, Todd Barry, Bill Burr, Lenny Marcus, Gary Gulman, Wali Collins, Jessica Kirson.
