Time and money are two valuable assets. With money, we can make money and lose money, and then we can make money all over again. On the other hand, time is one asset that when we give it away, it’s gone. You can’t take back the time you have given away. Yet according to award-winning author and documentary filmmaker John de Graaf, you can, indeed, take back your time.

For years, Americans have been led to believe that we lead the world by having more leisure time outside of work. The reality, though, is grim. Americans are more overworked and receive less paid vacation time than even the overworked Japanese. Owning more of your own time often means having the paid vacation time that will allow you to recharge, refuel and live life more fully on your own terms.

Our feature article, We Still Need a Vacation Law, written by John de Graaf, explains why politicians and other public officials need to pay attention to mandating vacation legislation that allows Americans to live happy, healthy and productive lives. Vacation is essential for both happiness and health. Let’s put it this way: Happiness begins by owning your own time.

This month, we profile the Tulsa City-County Library system in Oklahoma. The Tulsa City-County Library strives to promote lifelong learning, literacy in all forms and critical thinking skills. During this past Banned Books Week (September 22—28, 2019), the library celebrated books, reading, freedom of information, and providing access to all. The library’s message to the public is Censorship Leaves Us in the Dark. Keep the Lights On!

Happy Holidays!
