LETTER from the EDITOR

Dear Friends and Colleagues: Greetings! December is the month to experience artistry, freedom of expression and pure joy! Lately, we’ve been experiencing too much fear and loathing and not enough joy. Lifting us from the doldrums of post-presidential despair requires a major effort. No one can get us there with more surety than an amazingly accomplished dancer. Dancers know how to defy gravity by taking great leaps forward with such practiced skill that they don’t worry about making a graceful landing. And right now we need to be inspired to leap forward into the future!
In the December issue, it is my great pleasure to feature the incredible joyful dancer, Kiyon Gaines. More than a talented dancer, Kiyon is also a choreographer, teacher and manager of the Next Step Program and Pacific Northwest Ballet. As an accomplished dancer, he describes how hard work, mental focus and unwavering perseverance brought him to the heights of a stellar dance career, and are carrying him forward into new bold career direction and grand adventure.
During this holiday month we explore the many ways people experience Joy in their lives. Soon we will be on to a New Year! Who knows what 2017 will bring? When in doubt, leap forward and don’t worry about how you will land. Above all else, you have to keep moving.
