As I look around my home, I'm surrounded by books. One stack of books invokes fond memories of my past year—a year that took me to seven countries spanning across three continents. Travel has become a wonderful pattern for my life. The best part is that despite how diverse the world is in terms of geography, viewpoints, and cultures, people are beautiful everywhere you go. My favorite books for the past year are connected with my most recent journeys and include Lonely Planet Chile and Easter Island; National Geographic's China; Paris in Five Days; Lonely Planet Sri Lanka; Lonely Planet Europe; Lonely Planet Vietnam; and Cambodia, Laos & Northern Thailand. Lonely Planet Australia is also a favorite. On the literary side, I've enjoyed the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, the complete works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the complete works of Charles Dickens.
