Ken Woolcott, a Seattle businessman, corporate attorney and entrepreneur with over 20 years experience in the biotech and high tech industries, is a former minority shareholder in the Seattle SuperSonics. Woolcott has recently testified before the city council during several public hearings addressing the proposed SODO Arena. Woolcott recently issued a letter of support and encouragement to key decision-makers in both the city of Seattle and King County for their deliberation of the SODO arena.
Woolcott stated in his letter to city and county council members, as well as to the King County Executive Dow Constantine and Mayor Mike McGinn, "You are a sophisticated professional and public professional in the spotlight. Our legacy as a city and as an economic engine for the region will greatly depend on your continued leadership and your ability to balance the interests of our diverse community. I believe the Sonics are not only a part of our proud past, but a welcome part of our global future."
Woolcott also added, "The return of the Sonics is much more than Seattle's having an NBA team. The Sonics represent a community asset and legacy that was so unfairly taken away from us."
Woolcott, who grew up in Tacoma, still remembers the day he accidentally discovered the stunning view from Kerry Park on a college era jog through Seattle. Ken has always loved all things basketball, and his passion for the sport and the success of his business enabled him to become a minority owner in the Seattle SuperSonics. He has now founded an investment company, Six Degrees Capital, and has a charitable foundation, Heaven is a Playground, dedicated to children's causes. His foundation, along with other donors including the Sonics/Storm, helped fund and plan the kids' basketball court that is located in lower Kerry Park. Woolcott is an advocate for building community in the city and for leaving a civic, economic and entertainment legacy for future generations to enjoy.
Ken Woolcott is also the owner and developer of Kerry Park Court, the new luxury residences at 222 West Highland Drive, where he recently hosted a fundraiser for the Queen Anne Helpline.
