In this issue of The Connector we look at some of the ways money is used to attain enormous power and to wage war. We look at what money can buy: oil, power and guns. We have some thought-provoking articles about what is going on in the Middle East, where the daily drama of oil, power and guns plays out and shows no mercy for the sanctity of human life.

As we head into the second quarter of 2018, and an increasingly turbulent political world order, let’s never lose sight of the fact that the notion of “being wealthy” is a national pastime that permeates the very fabric of our government, our corporate structure, and our cultural norms. And while achieving great wealth might be highly desirable, that does not mean that he who has all of the gold should rule. A few entitled people making policy and law for all of us is dangerous and morally repugnant for a democracy.

The true American legacy is not as much rooted in money as it is in people of courage and strength, regardless of their color, religion, age, education, gender, economic status or ethnicity, who are not afraid of committing themselves to hard work and of going into overdrive when life gets tough. Ultimately, the life blood of America will always come from people whose beginnings are humble.
