PPROA Pipeline ~ February 2015 3 The Race Is ON! The 84th Legislature is ready to roll. January 13th started with oaths as members of the House and Senate are sworn into office. The budget has been set and despite the drop in oil and gas revenue, we are expected to weather the storm. Our industry will be facing some “more than interesting” house bills that deal with hydraulic fracturing, water usage and conservation, endangered species, transportation funding, property and franchise taxes. There are a total of 73 House and Senate bills I have been reviewing since attending the legislative briefings at the TXOGA meeting on December 1, 2 & 3rd in preparation for this session. ************************** What’s New and on the Horizon When I began my role as the new Executive Vice President of PPROA, I vowed to “not change but to be different.” You cannot follow an industry icon. You must cut your own path. EVP Judy Stark Communication – We all know that for any good relationship to work there must be communication. We cannot provide if you don’t first let us know what you want! The Board and staff of PPROA are going to provide you with the opportunity to air your needs, desires, ideas and complaints! We will be sending you a survey – so let us have it! Positive or not! Change is not possible without you! Quarterly Meetings - We held the first of proposed quarterly programs. This time it was in conjunction with our industry association peers PAPL, SPE and PGS! What a success! We had two amazing presenters, Bill Stevens, President of WindRiver Associates, LLC who is also a partner in the lobby firm Capitol Dome Partners, LLC. of Austin, Texas, spoke to us about the upcoming legislative issues and the proposed “check off plans” to positively promote our industry. Luke Legate with GFox Consulting caught us up on the hydraulic fracturing issues! There were over 70 attendees! Office Facelift - After many years, the PPROA office has new paint and carpet! Joe Watkins of JW Resources, a dedicated member of PPROA and our landlord, helped make this all possible!!! Look for our ribbon cutting and open house in February!!! Newsletter – No doubt you will notice a slight differ ence in The Pipeline. It too, is getting a new look. We ar e in the pr ocess of considering alternative printing methods to minimize cost yet still provide you with pertinent news. We have some new features which includes “guest columns” from members. If you have something educational or informative to share with members, please consider writing an article. PPROA Website – Having come fr om a client development and mar keting backgr ound, having a website does convey a public image of your company; in our case the association. It's important to establish credibility, to document our organization's progress and achievements as well as be a source of critical information. Be watching for an update.
