Love Story: Love in a Snap Shot Matthew & Alisha Richard
Shanna: Where did you all meet? Matthew: We met at church when we were young. Alisha: Yes, we grow up in the same church. Matthew: Bible Fellowship Church. Alisha ' s
grandmother was the pastor there. My mother was one of the original founders for the church. I have great respect for Alisha ' s grandmother as a pastor of the church; it wasn ' t the norm for females to be a pastor during that time.
Shanna: Yes! Alisha, I am so proud of her and I know
you are too! Your grandmother is truly a trailblazer!
Alisha: Yes! Thank you!( laughing)
Shanna: When did you all know that you were for each other? Matthew: Well, she always had her eyes on me. I ' m 5 years older than she is. Alisha:( giggling) I played the drums at church. He kept eyeing me. Matthew: She kept looking at me from across the room.( laughing) Alisha: I would see him all the time when we had church. Then he went away to college and I
didn ' t see him for a while. My grandmother had a 90th birthday party and I saw him again for the first time in a while. I was about 18 then and he was a college man.
Matthew: I came home to the party and I saw her, but I didn ' t think
anything of it. I was in college, I just pledged Omega Psi Phi and I was not thinking about dating anyone. I did see her eyeing me and I went over and said hello and we started chit chatting. She couldn ' t keep her eyes off of me.
Alisha:( laughing) He is exaggerating now.( laughing) But the next
day, I did call his mother ' s house to speak to him. It was a reconnection.
Matthew: We caught up on the past few years in that conversation. I
wasn ' t looking for a relationship. I just graduated and was looking for my next step in my career. I was mapping my next move of where I was going to work and which big city I was going to move to.
Alisha: Not long after that, I moved to Charleston and started working
at a bank. I didn ' t stay long though, I moved back home. I wanted to be closer to family.
Matthew: We still kept in touch. We had several phone conversations. I then got a job in
Beaufort and moved there.
Alisha: I went back to college at the local university and we still continued our phone
conversations.
Matthew: I still was not convinced 100 % to be in a relationship with her because of the
