Solutions
Spoons Long form : 66 x 2 = 132 shillings 132 / 20 = 6 remainder 12 , or £ 6 12s Using the trick :
YOU WILL NEED o Pen o Paper
Multiply the quantity by half of the price , then take the last digit of the answer and double it to get the number of shillings . Finally use the other digits as the pounds . 66 x 1 = 66 . To get the number of shillings we do 6 x 2 = 12 , then the first digit gives us the pounds , so the whole answer is £ 6 12s .
Scotch eggs Long form : Five pence equals 20 farthings , so 5 3 / 4d is 23 farthings . 23 farthings x 100 = 2300 farthings , and you would know from your pence tables that there are 960 farthings in a pound . 2300 / 960 is 2 remainder 380 . Or £ 2 and 380 farthings . You would also know there are 48 farthings in a shilling . 380 / 48 = 7 remainder 44 . Or 7s and 44 farthings You would also know there are four farthings in a penny .
44 / 4 = 11 with no remainder , or 11d . That gives us a total of £ 2 7s 11d .
