college 101 seamless transfer EARN & SAVE: CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT Southern Union is making the transition to a four- year University even more seamless by introducing its students to the four-year college experience through its concurrent enrollment agreements. Known as a best practice, concurrent enrollment expands stu- dents' opportunities and allows them to earn their degrees in a cost-effective way while familiarizing them with the university from which they'll eventually graduate. Southern Union began concurrent enrollment agreements first with Auburn University through Path to the Plains (P2P), a program that puts students in designated majors on a pathway to receiving their bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. Agree- ments have been signed with Auburn University at Montgomery and Jacksonville State University. GUARANTEED ADMISSION Through the concurrent enrollment program, students begin by completing general education classes at Southern Union, along with select courses at the University. Upon completion, partic- ipants are guaranteed admission to the University to complete their bachelor’s degree. Tuition and fees are assessed based on Southern Union’s tuition and fee structure, so the degree is earned at significant cost savings to the student. Each of the agreements between Southern Union and the Uni- versities is unique and program-specific. Degree paths available include: accounting, education, nursing, exercise science, human development and family studies, Biosystems Engineering, Geospatial and Environmental Informatics (GSEI Degree), and public relations. EARN TWO DEGREES Concurrent enrollment offers exciting opportunities for students to earn college credit simultaneously at the community college and university level. It puts students on a quicker and more cost-effective pathway to receiving an associate's degree and a bachelor's degree.
