SAINT JAMES SPEECH & DEBATE STUDENTS QUALIFY 25 MONTGOMERY CATHOLIC STUDENTS FOR NATIONAL TOURNAMENT SELECTED FOR HONOR BANDS The Alabama Bandmasters Association selects students for its honor bands through a rigorous audition process, and this year a record number of students from Montgomery Catholic’s middle and high school band programs earned spots in both the District VI and State Honor Bands. 12 students from the middle school and 13 students from the high school were chosen to perform in the ABA District VI Honor Bands, and of those, 3 middle school students and 11 high school students will represent Montgomery Catholicin the All-State Honor Bands. Montgomery Catholic recently unveiled a new performing arts classroom facility at the middle and high school campus. The new building houses the band, choral, and drama departments and features classrooms for band and chorus, individual practice rooms, instrument storage, and offices for staff. There is also a student center that serves as a gathering space to facilitate club meetings and other Activities. The last weekend in February, the Saint James Speech & Debate students who qualified to participate in the Deep South District Qualifier Tournament competed at Huntingdon College and Montgomery Academy vying for National Speech & Debate Tournament bids. At the district competition, Senior Gabe Robbins won first place in Humorous Interpretation and a bid to the national tournament. Additionally, Senior Trevor Otis won second place in International Extemporaneous Speaking and first place in Big Questions Debate – securing his bid to the national tournament. Both of these students will represent their school and the state of Alabama at the national tournament this summer in Albuquerque, New Mexico. L4 | Summer 2020 JEFF DAVIS FEEDER SCHOOL VISIT Jeff Davis High’s Counseling Department recently held its Feeder School Visit. Middle school students from Brewbaker and McKee middle schools visited JD with their chaperones to learn about courses and opportunities for involvement.
